Unlike Bitcoin, Monero\u2019s public ledger is obscured \u2014 outsiders can\u2019t use its blockchain to trace the source, destination or amount of any transaction. And its community has continued to improve its privacy \u2014 from improving its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/monero-privacy\/\">decoy transactions to obscuring recipient identities<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Monero ran into early issues. Because transactions are so private, it quickly became a favorite of Darknet users <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en\/article\/jpgv8k\/monero-cryptocurrency-dark-net-drug-dealers-hope-more-anonymous-than-bitcoin-alphabay\">looking to hide their tracks<\/a>. After suffering <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/black-market-bank-accused-laundering-6b-criminal-proceeds\/story?id=19275887\">a series of scandals<\/a>, XMR\u2019s price plummeted in 2017. Yet, the cryptocurrency has had a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/monero-2-year-high-online-ransom\">revival in recent months<\/a>. Since February, the currency has increased by almost 300% as privacy concerns have taken center stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we move into 2021, XMR looks like a cryptocurrency with second-wind potential.
